Lexua LFA Tokyo Motor Show 2009 Unveiling

It seems as though the Lexus LFA has been around for years. The concept model was introduced at the Detroit Auto Show in 2005, which is considered a long time in the automotive world. Toyota teased us with updated revisions of the LFA in 2007 and 2008, along with the swirling rumors that production was on and then off again. After all of the hype and the years of teases & rumors the production version was finally revealed to the world at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show. You will still have to wait until early 2011 before you will see the supercar arrive on showroom floors. …click here to read more

On this day in 1937 The Toyota Motor Company, Ltd., began as a division of the Toyota Automatic Loom Works. The company underwent huge expansion in the 1960s and 1970s, exporting its smaller, more fuel-efficient cars to countless foreign markets. During this period, Toyota also acquired Hino Motors, Ltd., Nippondenso Company, Ltd., and Daihitsu Motor Company Ltd. Toyota has been Japan’s largest automobile manufacturer for several decades.

Toyota is planning to reveal one of its most highly-anticipated sports cars at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show – the 600+ horsepower Lexus LF-A. Despite the economic downturn, the Lexus LF-A is reportedly still on schedule, which leads us to believe that we will see an October reveal at the Tokyo show. Other reports suggest that the LF-A could be ready for a debut as early as September’s at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

feb09-auto-sales

Those looking for a new car are avoiding driving up to a car dealership and February auto sales, which were down to their lowest level in 40 years, is a perfect example. No surprise that the Detroit Big Three were down last month. General Motors reported the largest drop at 52.9 percent followed by Ford Motor Company at 48.4 percent. Chrysler rounded out the list with a drop of 44 percent.

American automakers are not the only ones struggling at the moment, Japanese companies also reported a significant drop in February 2009 sales with Toyota reporting a 39.8 percent followed by Honda at 38 percent. Nissan Motors reported an overall decrease of 37 percent.

Amazingly Subaru and Kia reported a gain of 1.4 percent and 0.4 percent respectively, while Hyundai reported a drop of 1.5 percent. Things have got to turn around soon.

The BMW Hydrogen 7 — the first hydrogen-powered luxury sedan — joins an unprecedented cross-country journey featuring hydrogen-powered cars by the world’s leading automakers in the 2008 Hydrogen Road Tour.

From August 11 – 23, the hydrogen powered convoy will travel from Portland, Maine to Santa Monica, California with one goal: to call on congressional leaders to support the creation of a nationwide hydrogen fueling station infrastructure.

The Hydrogen Road Tour is a partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Department of Energy, the California Fuel Cell Partnership and the National Hydrogen Association. In addition to BMW, participants include Daimler, GM, Honda, Hyundai-Kia, Nissan, Toyota, and VW. Also part of this broad coalition are hydrogen fuel providers Linde, BMW’s hydrogen fuel partner for the Tour, and Air Products. …click here to read more

Lotus Eagle

This is the first image of the forthcoming Lotus Eagle. The car has been testing for many months, but with heavy disguise, it was hard to tell what it really looked like. The car will debut later this month at the London Motor Show. This is the first of three all new models, Lotus will introduce over the next three years.

The car is a 2+2 mid engine rear wheel drive layout, using a 3.5L Toyota VVTi V6 engine. The internal codename is ‘Eagle’ but we do not know if this will be the final name once the car is put into production.

Visually, the car is immediately identifiable as a Lotus with the classic styling cues on the front fascia with the rounded air intakes, air outlets below the heavily curved windshield. This rendering seems to share similar body lines like the Tesla roadster, itself, based on the Elise and styled by a Lotus designer.

We will bring you more details on this new Lotus as they become available.
