Following recent rumours of a fully electric powered Cayman prototype, it has been revealed that RUF, has in fact developed a fully electric powered 997 prototype. It features a 204hp (150kW) electric motor producing 480 lb-ft of torque.

Despite carrying 96 battery cells each weighing 5.6 kg worth of Axeon lithium-ion batteries, the 911 goes from 0 to 62 mph in less than 7 seconds. A theoretical top speed of 139mph is possible given its 1900 kg weight and 160 amps per cell. The RUF 911 EV has a driving range of 155-180 miles under normal driving conditions.

Well-established Porsche tuner RUF, a company that has been building cars for more than 60 years, is now set to launch its own Tesla rival in the form of an all-electric Porsche.

RUF plans to unveil an all-electric version of its Cayman 3400K model (pictured above) next month, although the company is yet to announce production schedules or estimated prices. The car will come with a 204hp electric motor with 480lb-ft of instantaneous torque. Power will come from an array of lithium-ion batteries, with charging capable from an ordinary household power outlet.

While this figure is less than the 248hp found in the Tesla Roadster, RUF ensures its electric Porsche will be able to go from 0-100km/h in about four seconds and reach a top speed of 200km/h. Furthermore, the RUF expects to have a range of between 250 and 300km.
