These latest spy photo show the RS5 being put through its paces on the Nurburgring proving grounds. Sporting new wheels and reworked front fascia indicate the car is nearing final spec, including a prototype of the final engine that will power the car. We should also expect the final production RS5 to be fitted with a wider stance and an aggressive rear-end.
A potential powertrain option is the same 4.2L V8 as the RS4, however power will be boosted to 450hp and it will likely get the option of Audi’s S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox along with a manual transmission. Other sources claim it may use a derivative of the V10 from the RS6.
RS5 will be competing with BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63. RS5 just like other RS models is developed by Quattro, Audi’s in house performance team.
Expect the RS5 to make its official debut next January at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.
