The Maserati MC12 has blasted itself into record books by claiming the “fastest production car around the Nürburgring” tag as its own.

Pitted by an MC12 owner himself against four natural rivals, namely Ferrari Enzo, Koenigsegg CCX, Pagani Zonda F Clubsport and Porsche Carrera GT, the car rose to the top. You may wonder about the absence of other names like Veyron, McLaren SLR and Corvette ZR1, but you see the cars listed here have the same owner. He houses these exotics close to the Nürburgring. Being more of an enthusiast than a racer, he asked American Le Mans Series racer Marc Basseng to pilot the rest of the group. …click here to read more

As part of the weekend’s exhibition driving, Michael Schumacher took to the track with an elite group of client test-drivers as part of the FXX Program. After their two free practice laps, Schumacher returned to the circuit on his own.

The weather for the event was wet, windy and cold - but that didn’t stop the 20,000 fans from turning out for Schumacher from putting on a show. Behind the wheel of both the FXX and the F2004, Schumacher laid into the track, sending rooster tails of water skyward and powersliding around the bends at will.

Audi RS5 spied on the Nürburgring

These latest spy photo show the RS5 being put through its paces on the Nurburgring proving grounds. Sporting new wheels and reworked front fascia indicate the car is nearing final spec, including a prototype of the final engine that will power the car. We should also expect the final production RS5 to be fitted with a wider stance and an aggressive rear-end.

A potential powertrain option is the same 4.2L V8 as the RS4, however power will be boosted to 450hp and it will likely get the option of Audi’s S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox along with a manual transmission. Other sources claim it may use a derivative of the V10 from the RS6.

RS5 will be competing with BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63. RS5 just like other RS models is developed by Quattro, Audi’s in house performance team.

Expect the RS5 to make its official debut next January at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.

The Nurburgring claimed its latest victim, a brand-new KTM X-Bow. KTM, a Austrian motorcycle manufacturer, built the X-Bow a street-legal track-day warrior intended for the truly insane. Constructed from reinforced carbon fiber it appears to have held together well for the occupants, which left the track and skidded on two wheels for some distance before striking and going astride the barrier. …click here to read more

The new Lexus LF-A Supercar due to be launched sometime next year. Destined to compete against cars such as the Ferrari F430 and Lamborghini Gallardo, Lexus is rumored to be doing some final testing before a production version is built. The powerplant of the all new LF-A will feature a 5.0L V10 engine churning out 500hp.

Ben Mitchell, Lexus corporate product planning manager, recently confirmed the price of the LF-A would “begin with a two,” while a source has also stated that the final price is likely to be closer to $225,000.
