Formula One legend Michael Schumacher announced today that he will not be returning to the sport to replace the injured Felipe Massa in Valencia as hoped due to his ongoing neck injury.
“Yesterday evening, I had to inform Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo and Team Principal Stefano Domenicali that unfortunately I’m not able to step in for Felipe,” Schumacher stated on his personal website. “I really tried everything to make that temporary comeback possible, however, much to my regret it didn’t work out.
“Unfortunately we did not manage to get a grip on the pain in the neck which occurred after the private F1-day in Mugello, even if medically or therapeutically we tried everything possible.” …click here to read more

A Ferrari 430 Scuderia piloted by Michael Schumacher in this clip is based on the F430. While being re-engineered for track use Ferrari wanted to make sure that it was still able to wear the license plates of choice, keeping the car street legal. While based on the 599 GTB Fiorano with the same transaxle layout and engine type, this prototype is an extreme track car. Ferrari’s engineers have carried out extensive work on the engine’s combustion chambers and inlet and exhaust tracts. These modifications, combined with the fact that internal attrition has been reduced and the maximum revs have been boosted to 9,000 rpm, helped achieve the target power output of 700 hp at 9,000 rpm. Particular attention was also paid to cutting the weight of the engine unit components. This was achieved both by optimising forms – as in the new crankshaft – and adopting exclusive materials, as in the carbon-fibre used for the intake plenums. Ferrari has unveiled its track ready 599XX at the Swiss held Geneva Motor Show. Along with the Enzo-based FXX, the 599XX will be a track-only car, “aimed at a select group of clients” also known as “current Ferrari owners only.”
Ferrari refers to the 599XX a “technological laboratory”, and it definitely looks like its playing the part. The front end of the 599 has been replaced with a more aggressive, aerodynamic front fascia, complete with a downforce-generating splitter. The 599XX’s aerodynamics were honed in numerous wind tunnel test sessions is able to create 630 kg of downforce at 185 mph. …click here to read more

Ferrari has just issued a recall for 1,950 of its 2005-2007 F430 Spiders regarding the car’s automatic convertible top, according to the NHTSA. The problem is due to hydraulic hoses that operate the top, which could form hairline cracks due to heat from the engine. From the stress, the hoses could leak fluid into the engine bay and possibly start a fire. Ferrari dealers will install an insulated heat shield that will protect the hoses from heat in the engine bay.
