Corporate India is in shock after a mob of workers bludgeoned to death the chief executive who layed them off from a factory in a suburb of Delhi.

Lalit Kishore Choudhary, 47, the head of the Indian operations of Graziano Transmissioni, a manufacturer of car parts that has its headquarters in Italy, died of severe head wounds on Monday after being attacked by laid-off employees, police said. …click here to read more

SUV sales are down this year, every automaker that relies on SUVs is having a bad year. Tata’s newly acquired Land Rover brand could be the lone exception – with sales only down 3 percent this year – but the Indian automaker is safeguarding against a bigger market slump by cutting Land Rover production.

Despite only a 3 percent overall drop in sales, Land Rover sales are actually down by more than 30 percent in the U.S. and an equally large number in Europe. Tata is removing two shifts from Land Rover’s Solihull plant located in India. In addition, Tata will also be laying off 300 workers from its Halewood plant where the Jaguar X-Type is produced.

Tata’s ultra-cheap Nano city car was slated to begin production in October, but violent protests have put that production start date in jeopardy. The protests erupted after Tata build a $350 million plant on the site of fertile farmland.

Rumblings of protests started earlier this year when India’s Supreme Court requested a reply from Tata Motors and the West Bengal government as to why ‘fertile multi-crop agricultural land’ was being used for the Nano’s production plant.

Despite the request, construction of the plant continued and many farmers were displaced from their lands. …click here to read more

Tata Nano to receive a compressed air engine?

Tata Nano

The revolution of the Indian “people’s car” continues as the Tata Nano still hasn’t finished it’s international debut. The petrol 33hp engine will soon be accompanied by a compressed air unit developed with the French over at MDI.

The engine, according to TATA, emits a third of the CO2 emissions of an internal combustion engine.

The cold air, compressed to 300 atmospheres, enters opposite tanks, is heated and moved to a piston engine which is then activated by the expansion of gases, which happens without any prior combustion.

This sounds very interesting and a different approch in the Green movement. Time will only tell.
