The Maserati MC12 has blasted itself into record books by claiming the “fastest production car around the Nürburgring” tag as its own.

Pitted by an MC12 owner himself against four natural rivals, namely Ferrari Enzo, Koenigsegg CCX, Pagani Zonda F Clubsport and Porsche Carrera GT, the car rose to the top. You may wonder about the absence of other names like Veyron, McLaren SLR and Corvette ZR1, but you see the cars listed here have the same owner. He houses these exotics close to the Nürburgring. Maserati is a company with a deep-rooted racing heritage, and it isn’t about to let that fall by the wayside. With that in mind, the Trident marque has released details of its latest competition model, called the GranTurismo MC Corse Concept.

The GranTurismo MC Corse Concept was produced by Maserati Style Center as a racing version of the GranTursimo S, and Maserati says that it will have upgraded brakes, improved aerodynamics, a lighter and more stiff chassis, upgraded suspension settings for racing, and more performance. …click here to read more

Maserati plans to surprise us with something new coming to the 2008 Paris Motor Show. While the Italians automaker won’t say what it is, they did create an online poll on their official website asking visitors to choose from a variety of answers including a new car, new headquarters and logo.

The million dollar question is what kind of car is Maserati readying for the Paris Motor Show. Could it be the drop top version of the GranTurismo or maybe the long-rumored compact Maserati sports coupe?

So many possibilities, we will just have to wait and see on October 2, 2008 to find out.

The Versione Corse is the mandatory production version for the homologation of Maserati’s MC12 GT1 race car from the FIA GT-championship – the same car that won the Manufacturers’ Championship back in 2005. Under the rulings, twelve cars must be manufactured and sold to the public and the first of these race-cars built for the road is now up for sale.
