Kia Motors has taken the wraps off its KND-5 concept car. Kia released the first official images of the near-luxury sedan concept car, code-named KND-5, ahead of its debut at the Seoul Motor Show 2009. Kia KND-5 boasts a dynamic and balanced appearance that reflects the style of the near-luxury sedan VG which is scheduled to debut in Korea in late 2009.

VG will be Kia’s first near-luxury sedan and complete the automaker’s passenger car lineup along with the Lotze mid-sized sedan (known as ‘Optima’ or ‘Magentis’ in overseas markets) and Opirus luxury sedan (known as ‘Amanti’ in North America). Based on the VG, the Kia KND-5 features an exterior with a newly interpreted line and the striking LED headlamps of a luxury sedan. …click here to read more

Those looking for a new car are avoiding driving up to a car dealership and February auto sales, which were down to their lowest level in 40 years, is a perfect example. No surprise that the Detroit Big Three were down last month. General Motors reported the largest drop at 52.9 percent followed by Ford Motor Company at 48.4 percent. Chrysler rounded out the list with a drop of 44 percent.

American automakers are not the only ones struggling at the moment, Japanese companies also reported a significant drop in February 2009 sales with Toyota reporting a 39.8 percent followed by Honda at 38 percent. Nissan Motors reported an overall decrease of 37 percent.

Amazingly Subaru and Kia reported a gain of 1.4 percent and 0.4 percent respectively, while Hyundai reported a drop of 1.5 percent. Things have got to turn around soon.

Here’s a new spy shot of the Kia Soul caught testing without camo. The photo by Brenda Priddy & CO. shows that the upcoming Soul should be pretty close to renderings when it debuts at the Paris Motor Show.

A 1.6-liter engine in both gas and diesel forms will power this replacement for the Rio 5. Both power units are based closely on the 16-valve DOHC engines fitted to the acclaimed European-built, Kia cee´d. The car should be available in the U.S. by April of 2009.
