Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced that Takanobu Ito, currently the company’s Senior Managing Director, will become the seventh President & Chief Executive Officer of Honda Motor effective in late June 2009. Takeo Fukui, the current President & CEO, will remain on the board and assume the post of Director and Advisor to Honda Motor. This management succession will occur following the final decision of the Honda Motor Board of Directors after the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting, scheduled for late June 2009.

Ito joined Honda in 1978, and began his career in its automobile research and development operations, principally as an engineer in the area of chassis design. Ito was in charge of developing the all-aluminum uni-body frame structure for the mid-engine NSX sports car that went on sale in 1990, a world’s first for a production vehicle of any volume. Ito also took on responsibilities as the person-in-charge of developing a series of compact sedans for the Japanese market in the early 1990’s. …click here to read more

Today Acura officially unveiled details on the 2009 Acura TL. The 2009 TL iwill be offered in both TL and TL SH-AWD trims. The base model TL is to be powered by a 280 horsepower 3.5L V6 the delivers 18/26 mpg and is set to be mated to a SportShift 5-speed automatic transmission. The All Wheel Drive SH variant will be powered by a 305 horsepower 3.7L V6 and comes with Acura’s SH-AWD system.

Honda thinks that the zebra-pattern camouflage we saw at Germany’s Nürburgring in June will disguise the new look of its V10-powered Acura NSX replacement. But our sources in Japan, using some insider hints, have disrobed Honda’s flagship sports car more than two years ahead of its unveiling.

Given what we see in these renderings, the grand tourer is neat but not gorgeous, and follows the 2007 Detroit Auto Show concept car’s lines closer than first thought. And that’s a shame, because the two-seater Acura’s expected price tag of $160,000 will place it right on top of much prettier rivals in the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Maserati Gran Turismo and Jaguar XKR.

Like the Nissan GT-R, the new Acura V10 has left inspired styling behind and instead has opted for a more practical aerodynamic exterior. The car’s upslanting keyhole-shaped headlights and narrow grille seem somewhat ordinary sitting above a huge gaping airdam and ducts to channel gulps of cool air to the engine and brakes. …click here to read more
